Our Shamba, or farm, is located in the Kilimanjaro region in Tanzania. We started developing the farm in 2012 by planting trees along the perimeter.

In 2016 we introduced organic farming as the first farm in the whole region. We learned a lot by doing, studying practices from abroad and applying them in our context.

Thomas Munuo

I have a background in IT and was the director of Digital Education Africa Network in Tanzania for more than 10 years. Throughout the years, I was involved in different environmental initiatives. In 2015, I choose to focus fully on my farm (shamba) and make it the first organic farm in Tanzania. In 2017-2018 I was the director of the Kilimanjaro project with which we planted 100.000 trees. With Shamba Darasa I want to show that we can transform the Kilimanjaro region into the green region we once were.

Joost Dam

I studied Human Geography for developing countries in combination with Development economics. After a short career in IT, I founded Digital Education Africa Network (DEAN) of which I still am the managing director. Besides the need for good education, I am convinced that we need to change the way we use our planet. When I learned what Thomas Munuo, with whom I worked for years, achieved on his farm and with the Kilimanjaro project, I did not hesitate a moment to become partner in his ambition to transform the Kilimanjaro region and contribute to a greener planet.
